Help Dani go to Yale this summer!!

Hello!

I've been very furtunate to have been accepted into the Yale Norfolk Summer Art Program!

Through this opportunity, change of space, and a new network of artists to be inspired by, I will be able to develop my artistic practice, as well as my understanding and discovery of myself. Yale Norfolk’s ability to create a community for mutual understanding and collective growth would allow me to thrive and be challenged by my peers who hold such precious and unique perspectives. It is also my ambition to be a source of inspiration and encouragement for my fellow peers, further motivating one another to create.

Here's a little bit about myself and my work:

I am a Mexican-American artist studying Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Growing up half of my life in Mexico City, Mexico and the other half in San Antonio, Texas, I became very aware of my misplacement in both society’s stereotypes. For a really long time I did not feel very comfortable in who I was. I rejected my body and was constantly challenged about my ethnic identity. It is through my work and my process in painting and sculpture that I am beginning to understand and explore these experiences I have had in my body as a Mexican-American woman.

My work ranges from small scale to large scale paintings, as well as installations that I create with the intention to invoke internal comfort when experiencing the work. The scale of my paintings is monumental, creating a sense of confidence as well as physical comfort and gentle embrace. I create color field environments that sit on the line of representation and abstraction, manipulating shapes that reference my body.

Bold mark-making and vibrant color palettes reflect my rich Hispanic culture. The titles for the work allude to a feeling I have experienced being overweight as well as, my ongoing search for comfort in my body. Additionally, I have started to take ownership of my first language by titling my work in Spanish, further reconnecting me to my Hispanic heritage that I so often feel disconnected from.

I want to create spaces of comfort and physical embrace -- a home or an inviting space where anyone can feel engulfed in the representation of a hug.

With Yale's generosity, tuition, room and board will be covered for 6 weeks this summer. However, to ensure my place in the program  there is a $1,500  registration fee that needs to be paid by April 27th.

Unfortunately, I do not have that amount of money in such a short notice, so I'm asking for some help.  I would really appreciate any contribution to my education. Your donation would go towards the registration fee, travel expenses, and since I wont be working for 6 weeks, some food and living expenses, as well as materials.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!! I am so grate full for everyones support!!!!

:)
