Host Susan worked with Dani at Hospice of Miami Co for many years.
Myself, Missy, am blessed to have had Dani as our Hospice Nurse for my late sister, Stephany King.
Transverse myelitis is very unpredictable and all proceeds will go directly to Dani and her family for any current or future needs as they arise.

Please take a moment and read Dani's story below.

Dani is a 42 year old who has been diagnosed with transverse myelitis. TM (transverse myelitis) is a rare disorder that affects about 1400 people per year. TM happens when the body's immune system attacks the spinal cord.
Dani had finally met the love of her life Justin in 2019 and got married in 2020. Two families merged and they have one daughter Mady (9) and one son Ian (8). The family was very active and spent most of their time outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing etc. Dani was a nurse and devoted 16 years to Ohios Hospice of Miami County working as a care manager visiting her patients at home and in facilities. When covid hit Dani in The end of December of 2020, Dani volunteered to participate in a study and received Regeneron to see how it alleviated covid in hopes of finding a solution to the pandemic. Vaccines were becoming mandatory and 6 months after the study, Dani recieved her first Pfizer vaccine. On June 26 of 2021, Dani received her 2nd vaccine. She had a fall that night and injured her right shoulder. Over the next 2-3 weeks she did not seem to be healing as expected. On July 17th, Dani experienced severe back pain and over the course of the next 5 days she went from her normal to almost wheelchair bound. After some testing she was hospitalized and had received her TM diagnosis.

Her neurologist has told her that the covid vaccination caused her body to attack her spinal cord. They also believe that an enzyme of covid has settled in her body where the nerves try to communicate with the muscles. She had some recovery but is left with permanent damage. It was at her last neurology appointment that Dani was told that she would not be able to/tolerate working and she would need to give up her career she dearly loves. She was encouraged to file for permanent disability and it is not expected that she have anymore recovery.

The focus shifted course to maintaining and preserving the movement and muscle mass that she has. She continues to have "attacks" when for a period of time, her function dramatically declines. One of these attacks affected her speech and swallowing. It left her with issues finding and pronouncing words, putting thoughts and sentences together at times and issues swallowing certain food and fluids.

This has turned their lives and active lifestyle upside down. There is a new normal of walkers, canes scooters along with the need for help to just shower and dress on some days. Each day is different and it is impossible to predict what her body will do, how debilitating her pain will be and how much function she will or won't have with each day. She participates in physical therapy, just finished speech therapy and Justin is an occupational therapist helping with therapy in between.

Justin has taken on much more responsibility and took a position that is an "as needed" position to allow him more flexibility with his schedule to accommodate Dani's needs as well as the kids. Dani is no longer able to drive and the act if getting somewhere looks a lot different now. Justin has been a superhero as well as other family and dear friends who have helped along the way. (Dani and her family cannot thank her "village" enough) The kids are attempting to adjust to changes and less active lifestyle. Dani and Justin are still exploring adaptive changes and equipment to try to give the kids some sense of "normalcy" which is an ongoing process. They are determined to not allow this to interfere in their lives as best as they can and try their best to give the kids the "normalcy" they deserve.

Unfortunately there is no ability to file for compensation for what has happened to offer the family some help. Most vaccine injuries allow for some monetary support and settlement from the government, but because the covid vaccine was given emergency authorization, all companies that produce a covid vaccine are protected for at least 5 years or more from any attempts to recover any type of compensation from either the vaccine or the government. By the time the 5 years is up, the time limitation allowed by the state and government to file for compensation will have passed.

Thank you for taking the time to read her story. We encourage you to message us for any questions and hope to see you at the benefit. Many thanks.
