Dani’s battle against metastatic breast cancer

I am creating this go fund me in a desperate time in dire need to help my mom and allow her family to be there to support her in her time of need. She’s a very private person but sometimes we can’t continue without the support of others. In June of 2023 she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastic breast cancer. Her cancer is in the breast, liver, and 6 vertebrae in her spine. She’s been battling every obstacle thrown her way and started a new second treatment that gave us so much hope 9/22/2023. We traveled to Florida 9/28 and 9/29 my mom became very ill and by 9 pm I had to call the ambulance to transport her to the hospital as she was to weak for me to get her there myself. She was admitted to the ICU with septic shock, acute kidney injury, acute hepatic failure, pericardial effusion, pleural effusion & ascites. But my mom is a fighter and over the first 2-3 days improved significantly. 2 days ago as she woke up and I traded with my sister at the hospital my mom had become even more confused and unable to speak, recognize us or ambulate. She then rapidly declined over the next day or two. As of today we’re desperately waiting for a bed to open at the ICU in Tampa general hospital to get her moved to better care with an oncology team as we’ve been faced with the unfortunate diagnosis of likely HLH. The other option is that the antibiotic she switched to Ceftepime has caused this mental status change but due to her kidneys not functioning well her body isn’t able to filter it out. She has received multiple blood transfusions and units of platelets as we finally get them slightly up and in no time they tank. This is such a complex case and hard to formulate all of the series of events that have transpired over the last 7 days. We don’t like to ask for help but are faced with being 16 hours away from home and will not leave my moms side. She currently is breathing on her own and keeping vitals stable while undergoing dialysis and awaiting transfer once a bed is available to the renowned Tampa General Hospital. Since starting dialysis finally for the first time in almost 36 hours my mom was able to follow a command to open her eyes and squeeze our hands. There wasnt a dry eye in the room.My mom is the kindest and most genuine person who has many years left in her and I’m creating this go fund me as unfortunately the world doesn’t stop and her children, my stepdad and other immediate family are traveling, most from Indiana and staying in rentals traveling back and forth to the hospital so someone can stay with her at all times which is expensive when we are in St Pete Beach. These funds will be used for lodging, travel, any medical bills that come from this, as well as current bills that still accumulate. Most importantly we could use thoughts & prayers for my mom to continue fighting and make positive strides towards healing and continue to be the determined, loving person she is. She has spent her entire life caring for other people and now it’s time we care for her.
