Daniel's Paralympic Training

Meet Daniel Nabhani - Daniel is a 16 year old cancer survivor with a dream of becoming a Paralympian.

When Daniel was twelve years old he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer 'Ewing’s Sarcoma' after experiencing significant pain in his leg. He had chemotherapy between September 2012 and July 2013 but sadly Daniel’s leg was amputated below the knee in February 2013 to give him the best chance of survival. Daniel then went onto have a further 5cm of his leg removed above the knee over two separate operations in the same year.

Fortunately Daniel survived his ordeal and was eventually given the all clear/is in remission, but he has had to undergo intensive physiotherapy, x-rays and scans since then to ensure that he can adjust to having a prosthetic leg and walk without difficulty or pain.

Daniel is currently a BTEC Level 2 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship student at Yeovil College, Somerset and was asked one day by his lecturer Carey Bastin what his hopes are for the future.

Daniel replied “To become a Paralympian running short distance”

Carey made a pledge to support Daniel in achieving his dreams and so in October 2016 set up this GoFundMe Page in the hopes of raising money in order for Daniel to buy a specialist running prosthetic.

Donations started coming in thick and fast and £1000 was raised by January 2017. However, Daniel fully appreciated that, because of the expense of a running prosthetic (around £8,000) it may be a long time before he would be able to purchase his required blade.

Then, by some small miracle, Daniel was contacted by the NHS Funding Department in Febuary 2017 which informed him that he could be eligible for a FREE running blade. After numerous amounts of paperwork and appointments on Tuesday 28th March 2017 Daniel became a proud owner of a Cheetah Xtreme blade!

This is but of course the first step of many for Daniel, as training needs to start! ALL money raised (and will be raised) is now going towards Daniels specialist training, travel and clubs which will enable him to participate in the next Paralympics.

Carey and Daniel are appealing for people to donate to his cause as much or a little as they can to help start Daniel’s journey in realising his dreams– any contribution is deeply appreciated.

Thank you!
