Daniel’s Keratoconus Surgery
I would like to start by saying, this isn’t something I’d normally do. Raising money for a cause or charity is one thing, but asking for handouts is a hard pill to swallow. However, given the current situation my family has recently found ourselves in, my only explanation is desperation.
This is my nephew Daniel. We have recently taken him into our family while my sister transitions out of a bad situation she found herself in. She’s doing great and they can’t wait to be back together!!!
Daniel suffers from a condition known as Keratoconus .
Essentially, the cornea thins and buldges which causes poor and blurred vision, sensitivity to light, headaches, and a host of other issues. Usually it can be corrected with simple use of glasses or contacts. Sometimes, if left untreated or in rare cases, the condition worsens
Well Daniel’s condition has worsened. It has gotten to the point where he has to have an operation immediately, or he faces the chance of going blind. At that point, the only procedure to correct that would be a cornea transplant, which is both rareand extremely expensive to come by.
We are currently working on getting him placed on my insurance, however, it’s a process and even if my coverage covers the procedure, will probably not be effective in time.
The cost of the operation is $6,000 per eye, plus a couple of thousand dollars of aftercare and medication per eye. So the total cost will be $16000! I desperately wish I had the money to solve this problem for one of the sweetest kids I’ve ever known, but unfortunately, I do not. I only found out all of this information recently, and was not prepared for such a huge event. I am working OT which will help, but sadly will be nowhere near enough. So if you find it in your heart, and are able, I am humbly asking for your help. Thank you.
