After a night of torrential rain, our friend Daniel Barron recently woke to an inch of standing water in his apartment, two feet below street level. The flood waters destroyed two beautiful Persian rugs and many other important, difficult-to-replace items. It also left moisture embedded in all his interior walls, risking deadly black mold in his home.
It looks like Daniel will have to move out, at least temporarily if not long-term, while the walls are partially demolished and the wet drywall is replaced. We are raising funds to cover his short-term moving expenses, as well as the replacement of damaged and destroyed belongings.
Daniel is a 40-year resident of the Bay Area, and has lived nearly 20 years in his rent-controlled apartment in Oakland. He is a former environmental activist and has long been active in his local trade union as a teacher in the apprenticeship program. Compounding the recent events, Daniel’s employers in the trade show industry have provided very little steady work over the last 3 years since the beginning of Covid.
