My nephew, Daniel, was born with the Zika virus. Though the world may have moved on, children like him are still here—facing incredible challenges, yet showing a strength that inspires us every day.

Despite his incredible strength, Daniel faces daily struggles due to the developmental delays, neurological issues, and paralysis that are associated with this virus. As you can imagine, his care is extensive and requires daily specialized monitoring and medical treatments, in addition to various therapy services. Luckily, Daniel has been blessed to have one of the strongest mothers I have ever known, my sister who dedicates her life everyday trying to ensure that Daniel receives the care he needs to thrive. However, this has not come without struggle. Despite being told by multiple doctors that Daniel would not survive, she kept fighting for him and continues to do so. While faced with limited resources and access to specialized medical treatments and therapy, she has committed herself to provide him with the care, attention, and love that he deserves, all while caring for her other two beautiful children and Daniel's siblings.

Friends, today the fight continues and Daniel needs our help! Unfortunately, he is now requiring two major surgeries—surgeries that will save his life—but our family cannot afford them.
