Danielle's Service Dog's Urgent Surgery

Hello Everyone!

I am trying to help out a best friend, Danielle Mayhew-Cardenas.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 2nd, her service dog in-training, Zelda, was hit by a car. Zelda fortunately got out with her life, but her leg was severely fractured. Zelda just turned a year old the end of May.

Danielle does have insurance on Zelda, but unfortunately had some other things that needed to be done previously, like a hernia repair, spay and dew claw surgery, and the surgeon at her vet is on vacation. This means that Zelda either has to wait in her splint that they were able to help stabilize with for the holiday, or seek external Ortho vets. Because of the circumstances and her vets unsureity to be able to repair the fracture, Danielle must seek an Ortho outside of her normal vet, which means paying out of pocket. Danielle has found a vet that is pretty sure he can fix it, but unfortunately the quote is $7500-8900 without seeing her. She does have a consult with the ortho vet and can provide the x-rays she already has from her personal vet to them to work on a game plan. As soon as that paperwork is in, I can provide the estimate paperwork.

Danielle is a Type 1 diabetic, with brittle type and insulin resistance, which is what Zelda is in training for. Because of this, Danielle is unable to work, but her husband does and provides for her and her 2 younger children.

Hopefully we are able to get something together to have the surgery asap, since Zelda, as a working dog and Belgian Malinois to boot, is starting to get stir crazy always laying. And I'm sure she would like to be off meds, fixed, and back in training with her human mama.
