Danielle’s Cancer Journey

Hi everyone, my name is Courtney Toia! One of my very best friends, and a friend to many in the Tucson community, Danielle Gutierrez, has been dealt another devastating obstacle. After fighting a brain tumor for 25 years of her life, undergoing 6 intense surgeries, months in the hospital, physical therapy, and things most people couldn’t dream of dealing with, she has now been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. The cancer was caught early and her prognosis is good with the help of 6 months of chemo ahead of her. As everyone knows, with chemo comes losing her hair. Danielle has lost her hair through every surgery for incisions related to her tumor (which is now finally 100% removed, yay!) and the thought of losing it all again was devastating for her. With new technology Danielle can use cold capping through her chemo cycles to help preserve her hair follicles and hopefully keep the beautiful hair she’s worked so hard to restore! Unfortunately cold capping isn’t covered by insurance, and as her best friend I thought we could come together to support her and hopefully get them covered to alleviate even a tiny ounce of stress during her new journey with cancer. Her and her family have never asked for help and would never ask for a dime even with all they’ve been through. But as her best friend and someone who loves her to death, I want to help and show her that some community support never hurt. Thank you all for reading, I love you all and know Danielle does too!
