My sister Danielle & her husband Trevor Houzenga had to be induced on 2/23/24, which is 5 weeks early due to ongoing complications throughout Danielles pregnancy. Anything before 37 weeks is considered premature. Danielle was Diagnosed with Gestational Hypertension about halfway through her pregnancy, she was put on 2 different anti hypertension medications that she will continue to be on after delivering. This diagnosis later on proposed some problems for baby. Baby’s umbilical cord was restricting and wasn’t giving the nutrients and oxygen needed. All of this required her to stop working and travel to doctors appointments 3-4 times weekly sometimes more. Danielle is a cosmetologist which means she doesn’t get paid maternity leave, there is uncertainty of going back to work. Baby Houzenga is staying in the NICU currently at Genesis East where baby is undergoing special treatment, including being intubated because babys lungs were underdeveloped. This leads to Trevor & Danielle having to leave their baby at the hospital & requiring them to drive close to an hour daily to go see their baby for at least the next 3 weeks.
