Friends, family and colleagues,
Thank you all for supporting my friend Sara and her daughter, Jasmine, with donations last summer. Your generosity has helped to keep them housed, fed and clothed for many months as we continue to work toward stable employment and housing. The more I have learned about Sara's story, the more in awe I am of her strength and courage, having survived years of sex trafficking without any help from her estranged husband and father to her three daughters.
As her survival is not only traumatic but expensive I'm reaching out today to ask for more donations, should you be in the position to help. Every dollar helps and every dollar goes to Sara to pay for rent, food and clothing.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Rebecca
From August 2022:
Hi, my name is Rebecca Schumer, and I am fundraising for my new friend Daniela, and her 2-year-old daughter, Jasmine. They recently came to the U.S. seeking asylum from violent conditions in their hometown of Tantarei, Romania, with nothing but the clothing on their backs after a traumatic immigration experience at the Mexican border. Daniela is doing her best to find work and to provide a safe and healthy place for her daughter to live, but she needs help with financial aid in the short term for necessities such as food, diapers and baby clothing. She is also currently renting a room from another Romanian immigrant family for $1K/month in Hollywood until she can find a more affordable housing option. However, she is on the verge of eviction if she cannot provide backpay for August and September ($2K) within one week from today.
I am working with Daniela to secure affordable or pro-bono legal counsel. Still, I would like to ask friends and family now to help me provide money for food, diapers and rent until we can get her access to other social services and childcare so she can work.
My current fundraising goal is $5K, and I will be responsible for providing her with the funds needed to pay for her necessary expenses.
