Baby Daniel was born June 1st at 12:01am weighing 8pounds and 6oz. Due to complications in labor, and medical malpractice, my lovely son was born dead and needed to be resuscitated. After 18 long minutes he was brought back to life, but due to the lack of oxygen he had for so many minutes, he suffered severe brain damage. Daniel was put in a cooling therapy right after he was resuscitated and stayed for 75 hrs to stop the brain damage from spreading. Afterwards he was gradually warmed to a normal body temperature. After many tests, and treatments, my baby boy was diagnosed with Severe HIE (Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy). The hospital where my baby boy was born in couldn’t do any more treatment after they noticed he was having seizures (due to the severe brain damage) and couldn’t be controlled with any medication they had for seizures. I was able to successfully transfer him to TCH where he got the best care possible. On his same day at his arrival, they ware able to find blood clots all over his brain, and in his veins near his heart, and a few in his stomach. They started treating them as soon as possible and his seizures also. The brain damage he suffered affected his ability to think, to be able to control his own body temperature and blood pressure, affected his vision, his ability to breathe on his own, swallow, have voluntary movements, and have conscious. my beautiful baby boy has fought so hard for almost 2 entire months. As explained by his doctors, babies who are diagnosed with this type of brain damage should have some slight recovery in the first 6 weeks, how ever in baby Daniel’s case was not like that. We all agreed to continue treatment and getting the best care possible due to the fact that he wasn’t getting any better, but he was also NOT getting any worse, in short terms, he was stable, meaning there was still a slight chance of a small recovery. But now the things have changed, he has gotten worse for the past 2 weeks, his body is letting us know that it’s tired because his seizures have increased, his blood pressure is all over the place even with medicine to control it, his body temperature is too, and he has needed more oxygen than before through his ventilator. His doctors came to me to let me know that they have officially done everything that was in their power. Daniel’s body has started to slowly give up on him, and confirmed by his doctors they don’t believe he will stay alive within the next week of how fast he went down hill. With all the pain of my soul, my son will be taken off the ventilator July 31st so he can finally rest of every machine and medicine that has been keeping him from passing away. As a mom, my emotions have been all over the place, but if I’m thankful of something is that I am glad I had the chance to meet my beautiful baby boy, and spend the time making as much as memories as I could. Severe HIE (Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy) is known to be one of the saddest diagnoses there is because it’s mainly caused by medical malpractice during labor. No one ever thinks they’ll go into a hospital thinking they are in the best care possible and then come out empty handed after carrying a full term healthy baby and pregnancy. My heart goes to all parents going through the same process. Any money donated will be used to cover the expenses of Baby Daniel’s funeral. El bebé Daniel nació el 1 de junio a las 12:01 a.m. y pesaba 8 libras y 6 onzas. Debido a complicaciones en el trabajo de parto y por negligencia médica, mi hijo nació muerto y necesitaba ser resucitado. Después de 18 largos minutos, fue devuelto a la vida, pero debido a la falta de oxígeno que tuvo durante tantos minutos, sufrió un grave daño cerebral. Daniel fue puesto en una terapia de enfriamiento justo después de ser resucitado y se quedó durante 75 horas para evitar que el daño cerebral se propagara. Después se calentó gradualmente a una temperatura corporal normal. Después de muchas pruebas y tratamientos, mi bebé fue diagnosticado con HIE Severa (encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica). El hospital en el que nació mi bebé, no pudieron seguir tratándolo después de que se dieron cuenta de que estaba teniendo convulsiones (debido ala gravedad del daño cerebral) y no se pudo controlar con ningún medicamento para las convulsiones. Pude transferirlo con éxito a TCH, donde recibió la mejor atención posible. El mismo día de su llegada, pudieron encontrar coágulos de sangre por todo su cerebro, y en sus venas cerca de su corazón, y algunos en su estómago. Comenzaron a tratarlos lo antes posible y sus convulsiones también. El daño cerebral que sufrió afectó su capacidad para pensar, para poder controlar su propia temperatura corporal y presión arterial, afectó su visión, su capacidad para respirar por su cuenta, tragar, y tener movimientos voluntarios. Mi hermoso bebé ha luchado tan duro durante casi 2 meses enteros. Como explicaron sus médicos, los bebés a los que se les diagnostica este tipo de daño cerebral deberían tener una ligera recuperación en las primeras 6 semanas, sin embargo en el caso de mi bebé no fue así. Todos acordamos continuar con el tratamiento y recibir la mejor atención posible debido al hecho de que no estaba mejorando, pero tampoco estaba empeorando, en términos cortos, estaba estable, lo que significa que todavía había una pequeña posibilidad de recuperación. Pero ahora las cosas han cambiado, ha empeorado durante las últimas 2 semanas, su cuerpo nos está haciendo saber que está cansado porque sus convulsiones han aumentado, su presión arterial está por todas partes, incluso con medicamentos para controlarla, su temperatura corporal también lo esta, y ha necesitado más oxígeno que antes a través de su ventilador. Sus médicos vinieron a mí para hacerme saber que han hecho oficialmente todo lo que estaba a su alcance. El cuerpo de Daniel ha comenzado a renunciar lentamente a él, y sus médicos confirmaron que no creen que se mantenga vivo dentro de la próxima semana de lo rápido que se inclinó al empeoramiento. Con todo el dolor de mi alma, mi hijo será sacado del ventilador el 31 de julio para que finalmente pueda descansar de todas las máquinas y medicinas que le han estado impidiendo morir. Como madre, mis emociones han estado por todas partes, pero si estoy agradecida de algo es que me alegro de haber tenido la oportunidad de conocer a mi hermoso bebé y pasar el tiempo creando tantos recuerdos como pude. Se sabe que la HIE (encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica) Severa es uno de los diagnósticos más tristes que existe porque es causada principalmente por una mala práctica médica durante el trabajo de parto. Nadie piensa que irá a un hospital pensando que está en el mejor cuidado posible y luego salir con las manos vacías después de llevar a un bebé sano en tu vientre por nueve meses y aver tenido un embarazo saludable. Mi corazón está con todos los padres que pasan por el mismo proceso. Cualquier dinero donado se utilizará para cubrir los gastos del funeral de Baby Daniel.
