Daniel Midgley's Transplant Recovery

Hi, my name is Amy Meyers. I'm Daniel's cousin and with Daniel and Stephanie's consent, I have started this campaign to help support Daniel and his family through his ongoing COVID recovery and post-liver transplant. Daniel has been through a lot in the last year and a half. If you're not familiar with his story, Daniel was a healthy and hard-working, 40 year old, father of four, with no pre-existing conditions that ended up hospitalized with COVID in the summer of 2021. He has endured and survived months of being intubated, being life flighted to a hospital specializing in severe COVID where he was placed on ECMO to give his heart and lungs time to heal, then extubation, completed rehab, inpatient/outpatient therapy, and finally, after months of being inpatient, he was discharged home. However, his story didn't end there. Post-intubation it was evident Daniel's liver wasn't functioning properly. The doctors tried giving the liver time to heal and regenerate but it was too badly damaged. In the Fall of 2022 he was admitted again, this time in full liver failure with nothing else to try to help heal his liver. As a result, Daniel was placed on the transplant list and recently received a new liver. While we are hopeful for a successful transplant and recovery, Daniel has another up hill battle in front of him. While he heals from the surgery and everything post-transplant, Daniel is unable to work and the hospital bills and expenses continue to grow.
