Daniel Deny needs our help!

Daniel is a ray of light. Many of you know him from his many years as owner of Primitivo Wine Bistro in Venice. Others know him from his time working as a sales rep with The Henry Wine Group and Chambers & Chambers – perhaps you have met him on the floor, assisting you with wine purchases at The Wine House LA.

On September 2nd, Daniel suffered a stroke (which may been a result of a clot forming after his arm surgery). He was transported from one hospital to another to receive a thrombectomy to remove the blood clot. The stroke cut off oxygen from his left side of the brain affecting speech and mobility. The procedure was successful but caused a hemorrhage that lasted 2 weeks.  Fortunately, his brain healed the hemorrhage, however for a maximum recovery, he must receive physical therapy and daily assistance.  The next 6 months are crucial.

And to make this experience worse, two weeks before, on August 13th, Daniel slid down a 20-foot hill while hiking in Topanga. He broke his arm in 2 places and had to undergo surgery wherein a titanium plate was inserted. He was not able to receive proper physical therapy and now has a limited range of motion.

His daughter Melodie has relocated from New York to help him through his recovery. She is currently searching for private therapists/caregiver who can assist her on getting Daniel back on his feet.

Below is a list of items where your recommendations or referrals would be greatly appreciated:

1. Medicare Advantage / Medicare Original – Daniel needs to change his insurance coverage into a plan that will provide the least out-of-pocket costs. Ideally, UCLA medical group – and, if you know of a particular agent who can assist, please pass along his/her info.

2. Caregivers – Recommendations in the Encino area.

3. Any other resources or information that you think might help Daniel and Melodie through this process. Could be stroke related, fun recovery games to play, even if you've had a stroke experience and want to share. Anything you think would help … even if it’s a good joke.

4. Phone Calls/Facetime/Visits - The health benefits of seeing a familiar face is beyond measure. Engagement is key to rebuild Daniel's neural pathways. Due to COVID this is challenging but with the proper precautions it is possible.

Daniel has always been generous with his time and heart and has been a loyal friend to many of us. We have set up this page for his many friends and family who would like an opportunity to give a helping hand.

Like every vote, every dollar counts.  And the winner will be all of us when we see Daniel back on the floor, escorting us to the wine of our dreams!

Thank you all.
