Hello Friends,
As some of you may or may not know, the voice of Royal Tusk - our friend Daniel Carriere, has been very ill with long-term covid complications since June of 2021. We have created this gofundme in hopes that Daniel can receive a very specialized treatment that his doctor is confident will help him fully recover and regain his life back. Some may have noticed that Royal Tusk had to cancel what would have been our first performances back after the pandemic, and now you know why. For all these months, Daniel has not only been unable to create or play music, but he often hasn’t had the energy to leave his house or pursue any activities that would be considered part of a normal life. Below is a statement from Daniels fiancé Nia that explains first hand what they have been going through. Thank you so much for reading and if you are able to donate or share this fundraiser, it would mean so much to Daniel, and to us.
“In June of 2021, Daniel suddenly fell ill. He was brought to the hospital after severe difficulty breathing, chest pains and irregular heart rate. After hours at the hospital, doctors still could not figure out what was wrong and sent us home. We originally thought this would pass but his health deteriorated over the following months. Daniel was unable to make any sort of physical or mental effort, and if you know Daniel, you know he is one of the most energetic and social individuals in the world. On top of the breathing and heart issues, Daniel was dizzy and nauseous all the time and could barely eat a full meal a day. The scariest part of it all was that his cognitive abilities were also heavily impacted. He was unable to play music, or to even hold a conversation with his friends or his family without the stimulation making him physically sick. He hit his worst in December 2021, when he could barely make it out of bed. We visited dozens of doctors, clinics, hospitals. With every doctor sending us home empty handed - our morale took a hit. His primary doctor believed this was probably related to COVID (Long Covid) but without a past positive COVID test, Daniel could not get admitted to any Long Covid clinics and it was impossible for him to get any sort of help or treatment. I spent countless hours doing my own research, arguing and at times crying on the phone with doctors for them to do advanced testing on him. They finally agreed to do further tests and found out that he had blood clots in his lungs- something that was missed by doctors and hospitals for over six months. Unfortunately, the clots seemed to just be a symptom of something bigger as even with daily medication, he is still struggling with severe symptoms coming and going.
With the public healthcare system being stretched thin, we have decided to seek the help of a private specialist Dr. Bruce Hoffman of the Hoffman Center for Integrative and Functional Medicine, who focuses on the treatment and rehabilitation of these exact symptoms and ailments. Unfortunately, this Doctor does not come cheap, which is why we are reaching out. Dan is making progress, albeit slowly. Some days he is able to drive or he will play the piano for a few minutes. These little steps are big victories for us. This all happened during the year we were building our home, planning on getting married, and as Daniel and the Tusk boys were planning to launch their new album. However, through all of this, we have been so damn lucky to have had our families and our friends supporting us, especially during the really bad days.
So all that is left to say, is thank God that Daniel is the strongest man out there and that we are on the road to recovery, one day at a time. Thank you all for reading, sharing and donating.
We are eternally grateful.
