Daniel and Amanda Palmer Recovery from Maui Fires
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Jason and I'm fundraising for my sister and her husband, Daniel and Amanda Palmer. They are safe, but are in dire need of help to regain some footing and rebuild their lives.
The fires in Maui have devastated Lahaina, the seaside town which has been their home for many years. They had woven themselves into the local community which consisted of artists and locals and created a quiet life that has now been overturned beyond repair. They have lost their home, their jobs, their precious cats, and their personal belongings. They are understandably emotional and working on all avenues to gain assistance from government, as well as friends and family. Anything you can do to help is much appreciated. Additionally, they want to give back to the Hawaiian community to help others suffering like them, and will donate 10% of donations to an appropriate local assistance fund.
No one ever wants to think of these devastating situations, but when they become personal, they are so much harder to bear. Imagine starting over with no place to live, none of your clothes you wore this week, your job, your community - all of it gone in an afternoon. Your memories, your day to day routine, your acquaintances and favorite hang out spots all lost in fire and smoke, literally.
Daniel and Amanda will need everything from those of us that can help. Everything from toiletries to transportation, to food and clothing. Their current plan is to move back to New York with family for some time to recover mentally and materially. They will need many of the things outlined below which is how they will apply proceeds from this fundraising.
Here is an outline of things they will need to gain or replace:
- Clothing, shoes, jackets, etc
- Food
- Apartment lease (with upfront monthly and security deposit cost)
- Furniture - bed, couch, dining table and chairs, etc.
- Kitchen supplies - pots and pans, utensils, glassware, appliances, etc
- Toiletries, towels, etc.
- Wall furnishings
- Electronics - tv, laptop, pc, etc.
- Transportation - airfare, car, rental, uber, public transit
- Additionally, they are artists and will need to replace art supplies which are expensive.
- Counseling
This is not an exhaustive list, of course, but gives you an idea of the basic need. They will need to live sufficiently while they settle in a new place, look for new employment, and work on staying mentally healthy in order to create a fresh start.
Thank you to all of you that are able to help!
