Danica and daughter survive violent domestic abuse attack

Friends of a Chicago-based German language educator are seeking support for one of our very best community members. Danica, who has touched the lives of hundreds of children in the Chicago community, was unexpectedly and violently attacked on Sunday, September 5. She was stabbed and strangled; suffered several severe abdominal wounds and had to undergo emergency surgery. She has a long road to recovery both mentally and physically.

As difficult as it is to fathom all this; perhaps even worse is that her 6-year-old daughter witnessed the attack. Her daughter was 5 days into the new school year and excited to be back with her friends. The emotional toll this will leave on both Danica and her daughter can not be quantified.

As tough as this past week has been, now begins the real work.

Danica and her daughter need our support to recover in all forms. They need to reset their life; they desire to move and find a new home to get away from the site of this senseless attack. The extent of medical needs and physical therapy to recover from the stabbings and strangulation is not yet known but will certainly be extensive. However, the emotional therapy requirements may even exceed those.

Immediately, they require re-housing and legal support; to untangle their assets from the attacker; ensure restraints are in place; and proceed with a divorce and separation of assets.

Our monetary goal is fluid, but anything you can give to help this family would be greatly appreciated as they begin to navigate their road ahead. As you can imagine, it’s not easy to share her story, but we are committed to raising awareness around domestic violence and the toll it takes on women, children, and society at large.
