Dear Friends,
We are in desperate need of your help and prayers. Our dear cousin Daniela was involved in a traumatic motorcycle accident in Peru on August 16, 2019. Unfortunately, she suffered severe damage to the brain and other parts of her body and is currently fighting for her life.
Daniela is a recent dental graduate and she was completing her SERUMS (Rural and Urban Marginal Health Service) in a rural area of Oxapampa, located in the central mountains of Peru. SERUMS is a required community service that young health professionals have to practice in to provide for underserved and low income areas of Peru after graduating. Unfortunately, the country’s mandatory insurance does not become effective until after the 90 days that someone has served in the program, which was the case with Daniela.
The day of the accident Daniela was riding on the back of a motorcycle to go to her day shift when she was hit by a car. Daniela immediately was taken to a nearby government hospital, but she was not admitted due to lacking insurance despite the seriousness of her injuries. Thereafter, she was taken to two private clinics, but due to the lack of equipment and doctors specializing in that type of surgery she was transferred to the capital in Peru to received proper medical attention.
She has just finished the first round of multiple surgeries and is in critical but stable condition with serious injury to the front of her skull. The costs to transport her via private service back to the capital and her initial stabilization at the private clinics prior to her surgery in Lima have been very costly to her family so we are asking for your help.
As you can imagine, this has been very costly to her family both financially and emotionally. Any economic assistance is greatly appreciated. 100% of the donations will go directly to all medical expenses.
