Daniel Cabrera is one of the most complete athletes of adventure sports that Ecuador has. His tenacity, determination and discipline have enabled him to excel in various sports, becoming a motivational figure for many people. This motivation can be easily felt by all due to the humility and unconditional camaraderie Daniel always has, turning him into a great friend of all those who enjoy the sport.
Unfortunately, in January 9th,2016 Daniel suffered a serious accident while flying on his SpeedFly Wing, near the “Middle of the World” sector, just north of the city of Quito in Ecuador. Due to a sudden change in wind direction, Daniel crashed into a wall of rocks going at 70km/h ( 44 mi/h) in an area of difficult access, and was left seriously wounded. His rescue was carried out several hours later thanks to the help of friends and rescuers; Daniel was airlifted to hospital while he was still conscious despite having lost a lot of blood.
Currently, Daniel is stable but with several broken bones on his feet and legs as well as an open fracture on one of his legs and 5 broken vertebrae. He is hospitalized at the Hospital Metropolitano de Quito and his hospital bill has already surpassed $80,000 This isn’t counting the cost of the years of physical therapy he will need to do in order to fully recover. Daniel is 30 years old and does not have health insurance, which is why the community of athletes from Ecuador has joined together to support his cause, to convey to you this story and hope that using "sport" as a common language we share worldwide, we can help Daniel have a normal life.
Any small amount helps.
