As you likely know, a large Oak tree unexpectedly fell down few weeks ago. Luckily, nobody was injured. The tree had some root rot and shares the same root system as the Oak tree on the preschool side of the fence.

 

 

 

Multiple arborists evaluated the massive oak tree that hangs above the preschool play areas and the conclusion was the same: "The risk associated with mature valley oak trees and areas of high use are too great given the species’ propensity for branch failures and the history of valley oak failures in the area....the safe and productive life span of the tree has expired, and the risk outweighs the benefits provided by the tree. The only way to achieve meaningful risk reduction is to remove the tree." The full report can be found here .

 

 

This tree is going to come down, one way or the other. Our #1 rule is at The Ross Preschool is, "Be Safe". While this is a beautiful tree, we must follow the advice of the professionals. As such, we would like to take this tree down as quickly as possible. The risk of a limb falling, much less a full tree failure, is just too great. As a parent said, "We can plant more trees but we cannot plant new lives".

(we should note that we love nature and trees and just a month ago the preschool planted 8 trees into the ground)

Our landlord, St. John's Church, will coordinate the removal of this tree. The cost to remove is $13,000. We will be responsible for half ($6,500) of the cost.  They had 3 tree companies give quotes, and this was the lowest one.  The companies required a very large crane, which several companies who were contacted did not have.
