Hi, I’m Billy!
I volunteer with Trauma Healing Together, and with the support of my amazing Aunty Jeanie and partner Chris, we’re kicking off a Dance-a-thon challenge to raise money for this incredible charity.
Here’s the plan:
On October 10th at 5pm, we’ll be going live on TikTok, dancing for as long as we can manage! We’ll be taking song requests and grooving to your favorite tunes, all in support of survivors of psychological trauma.
We’ll also have some surprise guests joining us throughout the night, so you won’t want to miss it! Come hang out, cheer us on, and get your groove on for a good cause.
Why are we doing this?
Trauma Healing Together provides free counselling, peer groups, and wellbeing activities for people rebuilding their lives after trauma. Every donation will help ensure these services stay free and available to those who need them the most.
How you can help:
Follow us on TikTok: billy_jeanie or Billy&weeJeanie and share our posts to spread the word.
Donate whatever you can—every little bit makes a difference!
Share our GoFundMe page and help us get the word out to even more people.
The Power of Dance in Healing Trauma
Did you know that dance can be incredibly healing, especially for those affected by trauma? When we move our bodies, it helps to release stored tension and stress, and can improve mental and physical well-being. Dance is a form of self-expression that allows survivors to reconnect with their bodies in a safe and supportive environment.
For people dealing with the effects of trauma, dance provides a powerful way to:
Release emotional tension: Dance can help release pent-up emotions and stress, creating a sense of relief and release.
Increase body awareness: Trauma often disconnects individuals from their bodies, and dance helps them regain a sense of bodily awareness and control.
Boost mood: Movement stimulates the release of endorphins, which are the brain's natural mood boosters.
Foster connection: Whether it's dancing alone or with others, the act of moving together can create a sense of community and belonging, something that's crucial for trauma recovery.
Promote healing: Dance can be a non-verbal way to process and express feelings that might be too difficult to articulate.
Incorporating dance into trauma recovery programs has shown positive effects in reducing anxiety, depression, and even physical pain. So while we’re dancing for this challenge, we’re not just raising money for a great cause—we’re also celebrating the healing power of movement.
