Not sure if you have seen what been going on with me still
For the month of feb 2022, I had a lovely 22 day stay at Lakeland regional hospital.
So here’s the short version -
Did high kick at dance on Jan 18th
Did a5.4 mile walk on Jan 19 - leg was tender But wasn’t uncomfortable until I sat down
On Jan 20 could not put weigh on it at all
Rested it all weekend
Went to urgent care on Jan 27th for the first time
Started - meds and got a steroid shot
A day later felt like it didn’t work at all
Ran out of pain meds so I asked my mom to take me back
So decided to go back to urgent care on feb 10th due to not having a PCP.
doc on call didn’t like the looks of the inflammation so he ordered a CT scan
30 minutes later he demanded us to go to thr ER
After checking in, doing more blood work, tests and another CT SCAN with contrast. The doctor came into my room to tell me that a Hematoma formed and my leg was infected pretty badly. Scared the shit out of me
Within a few hours Had emergency surgery on Thursday night 2/10
Took 2 liters of pus out of my leg
Had a wound vac hooked ip at the end of my bed
Every few days I had to get my bandages changed.
First one was the WORST experience in my life. The nurses gave me 3 types of Strong meds and I felt EVERYTHING. EVERY RIP OF BANDAGE
EVERY TOUCH TO MY WOUND
it Was The most traumatizing thing in my life
EVEN if I talk about it today I either cry, shake or both
Also Had 3 drains
But thoses were taken out on 2/19
The doc scheduled 2/23 to get sewn up cause the wound didn’t look back
So a few days later - I go under the knife, wake up to realize it Didn’t happen, pus/infection was still there
so wound vac and 2 small drains are back on me
A few days later I have to go do another wound bandage changing. Anxiety and emotions Are very high from the first experience.
The two ladies that came were angels
The meds were changed but still felt EVERYTHING
MY whole body was shaking so hard and convulsing that i that yep this is it.
I know tor a fact that they had to leave a small piece of bandage left in my wound cause the pain was unbearable.
So the wound vac is back on with 3 more drains
A few days passed……
The doc and his PA came to my room to do the 3rd dressing changes.
They gave me stronger meds, did local numbing and within 15-20 minutes of that I was done. Wound vac was removed. The 3 drains stayed. This happened on a Saturday because they were planning on trying to sew me up on that Monday.
And guess what- 3 time is the charm
My leg was closed up on 2/28
I did still have 3 drains tangling off my leg to Make sure all was healing well
Doc wanted the Follow up appt on.3/4
If he was pleased and everything looks good
I was going on be able to go home on Friday or Saturday morning.
When leaving the hospital.
I was denied for home health nurse
I was also informed that I did have sepsis so I pray and thank god Everyday for being alive and not losing my leg.
I have 20 stitches and 28 staples on the back of my left leg where the hamstring is.
