Dan Bisek's Medical Fund

Dan Bisek, a current Pella contractor and former Pella team member, recently suffered a fractured vertebrae. While being treated for the fracture, it was discovered that he has Plasmacytoma, a form of cancer that begins in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. With this type of cancer, the abnormal plasma cells collect in one location and form a single tumor, called a plasmacytoma.
Dan has been to Mayo hospital and clinics in Rochester numerous times for many different scans and tests, and now treatment. Plasmacytoma has a 50% cure rate. It can turn into multiple myeloma which starts affecting other bones and eventually organs. The good news is that Dan’s cancer is isolated to the area of his fractured vertebrae. Unfortunately, because Dan’s cancer is too close to his spinal cord, surgery is not an option until the tumor is reduced through treatment.
Dan is currently going through radiation, with the hopes to have surgery after the first of the year to fix his broken vertebrae. During the surgery, they will cut back 2 of Dan’s ribs to create enough room to work, and remove the pieces of broken vertebrae. They will then put in a titanium cage it is called to act as the missing vertebrae, add screws to the good vertebrae 2 below and 2 above the bad one where they can then attach rods, and bone graft over them to stabilize.
Dan has a long road ahead of him, both in treating his cancer, and repairing his fractured vertebrae. Due to the nature of his business, he has been unable to work. Those who know Dan recognize him for his strong work ethic, character, and being a good person. The funds raised for Dan will provide him the opportunity to pay his many medical/travel bills, and assist with living expenses.
