Dana & Kathleen's Urgent Flood Recovery Fund

My name is Dana Wing. My wife's name is Kathleen Wing. We are in our late 70s and live in Roseburg, Oregon. Last Sunday, we had a catastrophic flood rage through our property, causing about $80,000 in damage to our home and property. We did not take out flood insurance, and regular homeowner's insurance doesn't cover this kind of damage. We had about 6 inches of standing water inside our home, 24 inches in the garage, and many feet of water all around the outside of the house. The water in the house will force us to replace all of our real hardwood floors, all the sheet rock a foot off the floor, all the insulation under the floors, and all the duct work. We had a section of our back fence destroyed. We had 3 to 4 inches of mud all over the place inside and out. All of the exterior landscaping will need to be redone.

We live on the edge of a 500-year flood plain. The past floods did not come up to the house like this. With the price of flood insurance being 6 times the price of homeowner insurance, we had to risk going without flood insurance. Hindsight tells us it was a bad risk. We had no idea we were in a place where the water would actually enter the house.
