As some of you might already know, Dan (my Dad) was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis in July 2017. On November 1st, 2019, he lost his battle with this terrible disease. We are absolutely heart broken at his loss. He was loved by so many. If you are able to donate to help pay for his funeral costs and outstanding Medical bills it would be truly appreciated. Thank you so much to all of you.

Most recently he was diagnosed with Graft versus Host disease and it is aggressively attacking his liver, kidneys and gut. The Doctors at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids have tried everything they can but now it is time for him to go home to his beloved family, friends, dog and house in the woods. He will be transported by ambulance home and then receive at home Hospice care.
Anything you can donate to help ease the financial burden during this difficult time would be greatly appreciated. Dan, Deb and the rest of the family are so grateful for all of the love, prayers and financial support you have all given when they have needed it most.
original:
He has been getting blood transfusions for the last 18 months to keep him going but this is starting to take a toll on his liver and spleen, so now it is to the point where a stem cell transplant is the best option.
This is a serious procedure that will require massive doses of Chemo to basically kill his immune system/bone marrow so that he can receive a stem cell transplant that will grow new bone marrow. The transplant will take place sometime after the first of May at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
This is not an overnight fix. He will be hospitalized for a approximately 6 weeks and then will need to stay at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Peter M. Wege Guest House for another 45-60 days and then be on various medications to prevent rejection and infection(due to his newborn immune system) He will need to be very careful about what and who he comes into contact with for a full year after the transplant. Deb and Dan will need to get rid of their wood stove and replace it with a non wood burning heat source.
This fund has been created to help ease some of the financial burden that is going to go into getting him better. So at this point they are looking at the cost of a new stove, living and travel expenses while in Grand Rapids, approximately $1300 for the transplant itself and whatever the after transplant medications will cost. There are still some unknowns financially so our goal may change as time goes on. Any funds that might be left over will be donated to the Hope house in gratitude for providing the housing during and after the transplant. This is a big ask and anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated.
If you are unable to donate please share this page. If you want to visit or send notes of encouragement that would also be appreciated:) If you plan on visiting after the transplant make sure you have your immunizations up to date and are healthy! It would do him some good to get some encouragement.
Thank you so much and God Bless,
The Tassier Family
