Dan - The War on Cancer

Donation protected
God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.

My name is Brittany Helfin, and I have created this campaign for my boyfriend, Dan.

Daniel Gillyon is an active and hard working young man with his entire life ahead. If you asked me to use one word to describe him, it would be loyal. He has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He would do anything for his family and friends. His current and past co-workers would tell you that no one works harder than Dan.

In mid December 2018, Dan noticed a pain in his abdominal region. After a few weeks of changing his diet and lifestyle, the pain was still increasing. On January 17, 2019 he went to the doctor and they said it could be his gallbladder. They said he would need to have an ultrasound to confirm. On January 26th, 2019 an ultrasound was performed and his gallbladder was clear BUT there was a large mass identified on his liver. They said he would need a CT scan completed. On January 30th, a CT scan revealed that the mass appeared to be pushing on his liver and potentially growing from the abdominal wall. It looked like it could be cancer. On February 4th, 2019 a biopsy was completed. On February 8th, 2019 the pathology revealed a benign tumor (Leiomyoma). What a relief we all felt! We scheduled surgery for February 25th, 2019 because the tumor was still causing abdominal pain.

Fast forward to February 25th, 2019...the day that changed the course of all of our lives. Dan had an amazing surgeon and we trusted this man to perform the best possible procedure. After an hour and a half, his surgeon came to speak with Dan's mom, dad, and myself. He said that things did not go as planned. He said that this was a malignant tumor and it has spread to his liver. He did remove the baseball sized tumor and was unable to remove the liver lesions. Our entire family was devastated and didn't know what any of this meant. After spending 5 days in the hospital recovering from surgery, Dan was released...and the research began.

Dan was diagnosed on March 1st, 2019 with Stage IV Leiomyosarcoma (LMS). Leiomyosarcoma is an aggressive malignant tumor that originates from smooth muscle tissues. According to Western medicine, the cause of LMS is unknown and once metastatic, it is incurable.  After speaking with a Sarcoma Oncologist at a very reputable cancer center, the average prognosis without conventional treatment is a 6 month survival rate and with systemic therapy (chemotherapy) is 2 years.

I was reminded of a quote from Nicholas Sparks, "Science only goes so far, then comes God."

With an incurable cancer and the will to live, we immediately began researching alternative options. We prayed, read books and medical journals, watched documentaries and YouTube testimonials, and talked with anyone and everyone who had a story of cancer. There are clinics all over the world (Canada, Germany, Mexico) that offer alternative treatment to people who have been given no hope with the current standard of care. But it comes at a cost. 3 weeks of treatment can cost upwards of $50,000.

After doing extensive research, we have decided to travel for treatment. We will be going to Hope4Cancer. We will be leaving the country on April 10, 2019 to pursue more advanced technology. We truly believe the body is capable of amazing things. The clinic we will be visiting will be offering whole body healing - non toxic therapies, immunotherapy, nutrition, detoxification, oxygenation, emotional, and spiritual healing.

Some of the non-toxic therapies include:
- Sunivera Immunotherapy
- Sono-Photo Dynamic Therapy
- Near Infrared Lamp Therapy
- Full Body Hyperthermia
- Ozone Therapy
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
- Vitamin C IV Therapy
- Vitamin B-17 IV Therapy
- MaraGen

We are requesting funds as soon as possible to help with all aspects of treatment. With the challenges that lie ahead, we have both been putting work on hold. We are asking for help for Dan to have the necessary treatment to heal.

Every prayer, every positive thought, and every dollar is appreciated.

ANY AMOUNT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Thank you and please check back to this page for updates.
