For those not yet informed: Dan was put in the ICU after being struck riding his electric scooter on his way home from work last weekend. His scooter was wrecked upon impact and torn in half. He has a spinal fracture and is in a neck brace with limited mobility. The left side of his head suffered severe blunt trauma; skull, upper and lower jaw fractures required multiple surgeries. His jaw is wired shut and has to eat via a feeding tube. His eye is still swollen shut with limited vision and requires an eye patch until it improves. Dan is now home and recovering after 7 days in the hospital and has a long road ahead to get back to full health. Many of you have graciously reached out about how to support Dan in this catastrophic situation. I can think of no better way than to allow him to focus on healing and relieve the additional stress of extensive medical bills and loss of income until he’s cleared to get back behind the bar.
There are no words for how much we appreciate all who have reached out this past week. It’s been an overwhelming situation to say the least. Your kind words truly demonstrated the strength within our industry.
Dan has been crucial in creating the craft cocktail scene in Philadelphia for the past decade. He owns and operates cocktail catering company, Spirit Forward, in addition to being head bartender at Alpen Rose, a steak boutique located in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to that you’ve seen him slinging cocktails at 1 Tippling Place, a.bar, Palizzi Social Club and within the Schulson Collective.
All donations will be given directly to him in support of his recovery.
