On Monday, September 29, our dear friend Dan Knapp unexpectedly passed away, leaving behind his wife Megan and their two young sons — Jack, age 9, and Archer, just 2 years old. The loss is unimaginable, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know and love Dan is devastated by his loss and for the ripple effect on Megan and the kids.
Dan was quiet and introspective, had an understated yet quick sense of humor, and was a lover of music, Detroit sports, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with his family. He was a supportive and loyal husband, father, son, brother, friend, and a special part of every corner of the communities he lived in, from Lansing to Denver, Grand Rapids to Glen Arbor and everywhere in between. With a long and passionate career in the restaurant industry, he brought warmth and skill to every kitchen he worked in — as a butcher, chef, baker, and most recently at Mawby winery in northern Michigan. He loved working in food and beverage, but without a doubt loved nothing more than his family and friends.
Megan, too, is and always has been a pillar of her community. She manages Supper at The Mill in Glen Arbor and has spent her career in hospitality, always making others feel welcome, cared for, and at home. Many of us have had the privilege of sharing a meal, a beverage, a big life event, or even the simple everyday moments that make life meaningful and memorable with Dan, Megan, and their kids. They have always gone out of their way to lift others up.
Now, it’s our turn to show up for them in a big way.
This fundraiser is a way for us to show the Knapp family the same love, hospitality, and support they’ve shown so many of us. With Dan’s passing comes not only emotional devastation but also a significant financial strain. Megan faces a steep drop in household income while raising two young boys and managing the day-to-day responsibilities of life. The money raised will go directly toward helping Megan, Jack, and Archer with bills and essential expenses during this difficult transition.
If you’re willing and able, let’s please come together to support a family who has always been there for others and honor Dan’s legacy by surrounding Megan, Jack, and Archer with the kindness and care they deserve.
Every contribution makes a difference, big or small. If you’re unable to give financially at this time but would still like to offer your support another way, please feel free to reach out to Megan Westers using the button below. Thank you for being part of this circle of love. ❤️
