Last December Dan, 41, was involved in a serious car accident. He suffered a severe brain injury. It is miraculous that Dan survived. The accident affected his ability to talk, walk or use his left arm. Initially, Dan was stabilized at Illinois Masonic Hospital teetering between life and death. He was then transferred to RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale, IL. RML serves patients with catastrophic or acute illnesses complicated by multiple medical issues. Its the largest ventilator weaning hospital in the US. From RML Speciality Hospital, Dan was admitted to Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, IL for four months. While at Marianjoy he gradually regained the ability to talk, learned to walk with assistance, and started to use his left arm. After discharge from Marianjoy, he required several months of outpatient therapy. Dan worked hard towards the goal of walking, feeding himself and speaking. He was proud of his accomplishments.
Last week Dan took a terrible fall. He hit his head losing consciousness. ER checked him out and sent him home. He cannot get back into a much needed special physical therapy program for at least two weeks. He will need to start all over again. His brain sustained yet another injury and seriously compromises all his rehab accomplishments. It is very depressing both for Dan and his parents. Insurance will run out soon and it will take three to five months before he is eligible for Social Security Disability. His parents have been burdened with enormous medical expenses and now they face more. These funds will help pay for medical expenses, rehab equipment and assist with transporting Dan to the rehab center and outpatient care. The family is in a very tough spot. Your donation of any amount will help Dan's mom and dad sustain the care he desperately needs. It will, in a small way, lighten the financial burden and give hope where there is despair.
