Dan has been fighting a battle that very few people knew about until recently. Even then, I don't know that many really understand what this disease is and how much it's impacting Dan's life. 

The disease Dan has been diagnosed with is an auto-inflammatory disease called Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). Only 1% of people in the U.S. have it.  With it being a very rare disease, few if any doctors ‘specialize’ in it. There is little research being done and therefore, there is a lack of resources. Dan is covered in draining abscesses throughout his whole mid-section (butt, waist, groin etc.......). There are 3 stages to this disease and Dan is a Stage 3 - the most severe and the one that impacts your daily life the most.

Dan did lose his job due to not being able to physically do it. I am hoping that this will help with the financial strain this will cause - eliminating one area of worry.

Dan will be having surgery this Friday, October 23rd. The surgery is very invasive as they will be removing as much of the HS as his body can tolerate.  We are praying for all of it to be able to be removed in the areas agreed on by Dan and the surgeon; but it all depends on how Dan's body reacts to the invasiveness of the surgery. If the surgeon cannot get it all on the first surgery, he will have to have additional surgeries.
