Keep Dan Everhart's revolutionary fire burning

Dan Everhart, a rebel with an indomitable will, died in his home last December. We are installing a memorial to honor his legacy as an agent of social change in our community and to keep the fire of revolutionary struggle burning for ecology, democracy, peace and justice. With your help, we can create a memorial worthy of our dear friend, mentor and comrade. Funds will help us plant a tree and place a plaque in his favorite park.
Dan was a leader and mentor integral to the advancement of social, economic and ecological justice in Chico, California and beyond. He was a rarity in the sense that his principles always took precedence over political expediency. He was more than a mentor and role model. As an outspoken critic of capitalism, patriarchy, imperialism and white supremacy, Dan lived a life that honored his ideals. His obituary goes into more depth on his life and legacy.
This fall we will place a bronze plaque in concrete at the base of a scarlet oak at 20th Street Park in Chico, a place Dan frequently visited for solitude or to commune with the city's unhoused, addicts and other social outcasts. The recreation district board (C.A.R.D.) already unanimously approved our request. Now we are raising funds to install the memorial. Since Dan was a student of Gandhi and a quadriplegic, a few close friends chose the following Gandhi quote for the inscription: "Strength does not come from physical ability. It comes from an indomitable will."
All funds raised that exceed our estimate for the memorial installation will go to local organizing efforts centered on housing democracy in Northern California.
