Dan & Emy - Get By With A Little Help from Friends

Tricia Foster and Kim Kasparian are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Emy Hoff and Dan Shine.

On the morning of December 1st, Dan was in a car accident on his way to work (struck from behind while almost at a complete stop in his pick-up truck, two cars behind from a signaled pedestrian crosswalk, where a pedestrian was in the process of crossing the street, when the car behind him drove into the back of his truck. They did not break at all and pushed him off the road into an island). While Dan is getting better every day, he is still home, tires easily, has stiff neck rotation and stabbing back pain, eye headaches, lost words and memory lapses, and blurry vision. We don’t know when he will be cleared for work and the number of doctor and physical therapy appointments ahead will be extensive and expensive. He finally got cleared for PT on January 12th.

Unfortunately, the truth is, things are incredibly challenging for them. There is so much to do, and expenses are piling up, especially with the added cost of out of pocket medical, a rental car upcoming (the truck was totaled) and household bills- mortgage/groceries etc. now depending on only half their income.

This sudden, unexpected financial burden is a serious struggle. Even facing the practicalities of their financial insecurity, the family says that the hardest challenge is actually Dan's frustration with his limits. He is a servant at heart. He gives so much of himself, always helping others, giving of his time and talents. Most of it is physical. In his personal life and his professions (chef- retired, construction), his body has been his tool. Dan is also an athlete, with a focus on running and obstacle racing. Currently he can't work, he can't carry, lift, bend, or reach. He can't drive more than locally for short durations.

This Go Fund Me is being set up to help alleviate some of the financial stress that is being felt so Dan can focus on healing and Emy and their family can focus on supporting him emotionally and in his daily needs. The family is so very grateful for any donations that will help assist with the family expenses.
