Dan Elkerton Paradise Fire Recovery

Retired San Diego Sheriff's Sergeant Daniel Elkerton and his wife Patricia retired from San Diego and relocated to Paradise Ca about five years ago and settled into their dream retirement home. Dan spent his life in law enforcement, serving and protecting his community. Dan, who was always the tinkerer, finally had the time and got busy building his lifelong dream shop where he worked with wood, metal, his off-road Jeep CJ-7 and restoring his Ford Model A truck. Being an accomplished bluegrass musician on the side, Dan even handmade a banjo just for fun. What he is best known for, is his incredible sense of humor and his desire to always help out anyone that needed it. Dan was involved in many extracurricular activities as well, including being the former president of the San Diego 4 Wheelers, member of the Chico Model A Club, a HAM Radio operator, and playing in bluegrass bands. Dan could not have found a better soulmate than Patti. She not only appreciates his sense of humor but has one of her own. She enjoyed being dragged around to all the bluegrass music festivals and the desert for numerous off-road adventures. She loved off-roading so much she got a jeep of her own. Last week during the Paradise/Camp fire, Dan and Patti were out of town when they got a call from a family member who was staying in their home. The fire had come through the area so fast that their pets, some paperwork, his banjo and a motorhome was all that was saved. Dan and Patti's entire home with all their possessions was entirely destroyed. Thankfully no one was hurt, even though many in that town have died from this fire. While insurance will cover most things, in times like this you realize how much insurance won't cover. I am hoping to raise funds to cover the items that insurance doesn't cover or were under insured for. It is hard for anyone to start over. It is even harder when you are retired and on a fixed income. Dan is a humble man and would never do this GoFundMe on his own. He is always the one that would help those around him while his own house burns. Please contribute anything you feel led to for this family.
