Daniel James Chancellor, age 60, passed away unexpectedly at home in Blue Mounds, on Feb. 16, 2024. He was born on March 13, 1963, the son of Ed and Frances (Mueller) Chancellor.
Dan graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1981 and lived in the Mount Horeb area for most of his life. He farmed, drove trucks, and was a longtime patrolman for Springdale Township. Dan was a jack-of-all trades and spent much of his free time repairing old machines and vehicles, doing building projects, and caring for pets and farm animals. He read widely, loved movies, and enjoyed road trips and fishing - preferably in combination. He was particularly fond of thrift stores and garage sales.
Although Dan was often most comfortable alone, he enjoyed helping others. He would stop to help stranded drivers in any weather, was fastidious about keeping the roads he plowed safe, and worked hard to make things easier for others.
Dan is survived by his sons, Dave (Rachel) Chancellor, John (Heather Kaarakka) Chancellor, and Joe Chancellor; four grandchildren, Nolan, Mark, Cal, and Jack Chancellor; his parents, Ed and Frances Chancellor; and his siblings, Rick (Rita) Chancellor, Sandy (Corky) Webster, Kathy Chancellor, and Mary Chancellor. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, David Chancellor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Horeb High School FFA program. Dan was an active member of the FFA growing up and the family would love to make an impact for the local chapter.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth Street, Mount Horeb at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, with Vicar Jim Ranney presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Monday.
