Facing The Truth by D'amoura Rackard (Boston Arts Academy Senior Dance Project 2015)
My name is D'amoura Rackard , and I am a Senior Dance major at the Boston Arts Academy. I am also a member of Origination Cultural Arts Center Professional Dance Group called Nia Dance Troup. OrigiNation is a registered501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that produces innovative and dynamic performing arts programs which motivate, challenge, and inspire youth to be the best they can be. Each year, Organization conducts a Youth Empowerment Tour, tp which young artisits like myself we will be volunteeringm across Europe at local Soup Kitchens, connecting with local shelters to dance, learn of the different styles of dance, while teaching other youth from impoverished communties.
This year, NIA will be traveling back to Europe (June 26-July 2, 2015), and I hope participate in this opportunity. Though Origination is a non-profit, it has been solely up to Artists such as myself to raise enough funds to cover travel, living costs while abroad. My goal here is to touch the lives of the many young people that have not had the opportunity to learn of the arts as a form of expression and a tool to creating a healthy living community. As part of NIA, I am committed to making an impact with those of who I dance with, and volunteeer. That is why I ask that you help me reach my goal, and to grant me this opportunity to make my dreams a reality.
I have been with Origination since I was 4yrs old and this will be my 1st Youth Empowerment Tour . Some of the many things that I am looking toward, while participating on this trip is to engage with youth from all over, and to share my passion for dance and arts with others from across the world. This, in a sense of community building is what I aim for. It's also what I have been practicing throughout my career at the Boston Arts Academy '15; to be able to use my art and make my community and the world a better place. This is my dream, and I hope to achieve it during this trip. With your help, I'll be able to do just that.
Thank you for your time, and for any help that you are able to prive to help me reach my goal.

OrigiNation's mission is to utilize innovative dance instruction, performance opportunities, and other effective strategies to promote self-esteem, leadership development, physical fitness and self-sufficiency among youth ages 2-18. While providing a safe environment for Boston's youth to learn and flourish.
In 1997 Origination started the Youth Empowerment Tour (South Africa), a cultural exchange program for students in their Professional Dance Division. Helping to raise awareness and expose the dancers to aspects of cultures which they may not be familiar with. As well as provide students in other countries the opportunity to learn more about African-American culture and discover their own artistic talents in many areas (dance, theater, spoken word) by conducting lectures and demonstrations. These workshops include discussions about self-esteem, civic responsibility and the importance of learning inner strength to navigate through challenging times. The Youth Empowerment Tour has visited several other countries including Dakar,Senegal (2009), Europe (2010), Haiti (2011) and Ghana (2012).
