hi, i’m damone, aka mona, you may know me by roughly 23 other names. i’m a disabled blak bi woman from rural victoria, australia, and i was recently made homeless after being forced out of an abusive home i was already trying to leave.

i could only take my laptop, important documents, a few clothes, my cats, and what i was wearing. i currently have crisis accommodation until 03/08/2026. after that, there’s no more funding for housing support, though my caseworker is still working her ass off for me where possible with referrals (we love you [redacted for her privacy])

i don’t have family i can safely stay with, and my friends aren’t able to house me, though they've been incredible support where possible.

the situation i was in was abusive, unsafe, and inaccessible for my needs beyond the violence, and it seriously screwed with my physical and mental health, worsening my chronic pain and fatigue. i was restricted from food, medication, and basic freedom, and experienced ongoing verbal and physical abuse. i won’t go into detail, but going back isn't an option. i’m doing everything i can to get back on my feet.

i’m looking for work, applying for the dsp, crisis payments, and accessing what little super i have, and working with services to find safe housing. i was already knocked back from one refuge, so my caseworker and i are looking at more options, but funding has run out and time is not really my friend right now.

right now, i just need to get through the next few weeks. funds will go toward temporary accommodation, food, medication, and transport while i try to stabilise. i also need to relocate myself and my cats across the state. they need vaccinations before they can go into temporary boarding, which will let me access pet-free housing options while i wait on support and look for work and rentals.

my goal is just... a safe, stable home and enough breathing room to make the necessary steps to keep it.

if i can secure a rental, funds will help cover initial rent, utilities, and basic essentials like a bed, fridge, and washing machine, while i get my shit together.

i also want to work toward getting my licence so i can get my car back and regain independence and eventually retrieve more of my belongings.

i know i can sort myself out once i’m safe. i just need help getting through this in-between stage. i need to get from point a to point b without being forced back to point a.
