Damo: The Musical
Donation protected
When Damien Lovelock passed away earlier this year we lost a unique character, a charismatic larrikin and engaging storyteller with a sharp mind and a generous heart.
Damien first gained public attention in the early 80s as front-man for seminal Sydney band The Celibate Rifles.
As well as fronting the Rifles for almost 40 years, he collaborated on a range of diverse music projects, released two solo albums, wrote books on football and cooking, was a regular commentator on SBS World Game and a yoga teacher.
Damo The Musical is a celebration of Damien’s life through the music he loved and the bands he played in.
A commemorative show was held at Sydney's Enmore Theatre on Sunday 22 September. The Celibate Rifles headlined with several guest singers, including Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys). They were supported by Damien’s solo band Wigworld and a supergroup of his regular collaborators drawing on some of Sydney’s rock royalty. The evening was hosted by Steve Cannane and Francis Leach
With support from the Celibate Rifles we were able pulled together a professional film and sound crew. Some crew donated their time and resources, while others agreed to work for significantly reduced rates.
This means we've captured a high-quality audio-visual recording of the event. And now we need funds to execute post-production work. Hence our appeal for your support through our crowd-funding campaign
Our intention is to create an appropriate documentation of the event and a fitting commemoration of Damien’s life.
The finished film will be between 30 - 50 minutes duration and available through a public streaming service. And, hopefully we'll find ourselves in a position to pitch the project to a broadcaster.
Either way we need funds to make it happen...thanks for donating!
