Tyler is a spunky, sweet, beautiful 16 year old that was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the sacrum 2 years ago. After a long course of chemo, she underwent an 18 hour complicated surgery to remove her left leg and hip at MD Anderson in Houston.
She then had a left thoracotomy done in February of this year that removed 8 cancerous tumors. In March, she had another thoracotomy on the right lung in which 2 cancerous tumors were removed. In April, she had CT scans that showed no evidence of cancer.
She went to MD Anderson two weeks ago for her quarterly check up and her chest x-ray showed possible pneumonia. Her oncology team at Children's in Birmingham were notified and Tyler made another trip to Birmingham for further testing. Sadly, the cancer has returned with a vengeance. Surgery is not a option. Tyler will begin chemo on 7/21/2020 in hopes to stop the spread so she can enjoy life as long as possible. She opted out of aggressive treatment due to her past issues with chemo. As before, aggressive treatment would likely damage her kidneys, halting chemo and wasting valuable time. She was also given the option of oral chemo, but the time it takes for the pills to work is too valuable at this point.
She will be making the trek to Birmingham weekly to get her outpatient treatment. Please consider giving and helping ease the financial burden for Tyler and her family.
