Damien's Top Surgery

Hi everyone! I'm Damien, a 24 year old trans man. I came out as transgender in 2013, when I was 18 years old, and have identified as transgender since I was 16. I've been dreaming about doing this for years, but I finally worked up the nerve to start the top surgery process. It's time for me to try to reach this transition goal, one that I've had for a long time now.  Getting top surgery would change my quality of life almost completely. I have asthma and with my chest size, binding is makes it so hard to breathe that I can't wear a binder at all in the summer, and definitely never for more than 3 or 4 hours. My chest has always caused me a lot of dysphoria and the more I take hormones, the more dysphoria it causes me. It would be incredible to be able to live without that dysphoria.  I live in the south and since I don't feel comfortable binding, I'm constantly placed in dangerous situations, in addition to being asked invasive, personal questions on an almost-daily basis. I can't do this anymore. It's time for something to change and I'm ready now. I just had my consultation appointment and when my insurance receives the letter of medical necessity from my psychiatrist, I can set a date for the surgery. I'm saving every penny and working as hard as I can to make this a reality. This has been a dream for me for almost a decade now.  As of right now, I am planning to set a date for mid-December so I can recover in between semesters. I've set the goal for $1,000, but I will update it as soon as I get the final out of pocket cost. Any little thing you do makes a huge difference and this surgery would totally change my life.
