On Sunday, August 20, 2023, my Uncle Damien was rushed to Piedmont Newton hospital due to him experiencing extremely bad head pain & dizziness . Piedmont Newton confirmed that Damien was having an acute neurological event . Damien was then life flighted immediately to Grady hospital . Grady hospital took Damien into emergency mechanical embolectomy surgery to remove two blood clots off his brain stem. During the surgery they were only able to reach and remove one blood clot. Following the surgery they began treatment to attempt to dissolve the other blood clot that was un reachable during the surgical procedure .
- In return his brain stem has been extremely damaged from the stroke and is no longer functioning at the state it needs to . Damien’s brain has started swelling rapidly . His team of neurologists have evaluated him significantly and from his MRI’s and CT scans Damien’s brain is no longer functioning to sustained any mobility, including the respiratory functions of his body. His three sons are asking for everyone to pray for their father during this time. Damien is currently on a ventilator & the likely hood of his brain to support the functioning of his respiratory with out the vent assistance is not likely . Please pray for his children as they navigate through such a devastating time . Once there has been a decision made on the ventilator being removed I will ensure to update here .
