Hey Everyone,
I'm starting a Go Fund Me for my dad, Damian. He's currently fighting throat cancer, and while we're doing the best we can to keep our heads above water, we're really running out of options.
I've never really been the kind of person to ask for these kinds of things (for what it's worth, I GIVE whenever I can), so making this video was really difficult for me. Since my birthday is Monday (December 29th), I figured it's one of the only days of the year where I'm allowed to ask for the things I normally wouldn't.
But this year, I don't want breakfast in bed, I don't want to stay out past my bedtime, and I don't want a fancy dinner or a trip to the bar (... Although, admittedly, I could definitely use a drink).
I just want my folks to be as happy and healthy as possible. My father is physically incapable of working right now, and taking care of him has become a full-time job for my mother, in and of itself. Unfortunately, we do not have health care. I'm helping out as much as I can, but the bills are piling up, and we're starting to tread water.
If you felt compelled enough by this video and this message to donate to this fund, or share the link with your friends and families, I want you to know -- from the deepest part of my heart -- that I am tremendously grateful; my family is grateful.
I understand that a lot of these GoFundMe's and KickStarter things tend to promise people certain things in order to incentivize them into donating. I don't really have much else to give you, other than the comfort of knowing that every single cent donated to this fund will go toward helping provide my father with the care he needs, and that your generosity is worth more than a simple nod or hand gesture -- it's keeping the lights on.
But I'd also like to make a promise -- right here and now.
All of the research that I've seen regarding proper dieting and care for people suffering from this illness recommends a vegan diet.
My friends and family know that I am a voracious eater of meat -- everything from thick-cut steaks, to bacon (Oh my God, bacon!), and even spam. I LOVE meat.
Right here, right now, I will promise that if we DO manage to reach our $3,000 goal, I will give up meat and undertake a completely Vegan diet. I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep my dad around.
(For reference, this is a bargain, because once, in a game of, "How much would it cost you to do _______" I said that bacon is priceless and I'd sooner die than give it up. Just think about that, for a second.)
I don't know whether this will take off and reach our goal, or whether it's going to fall on its face, but win lose or draw -- thank you all so much for taking the time to read this. Thank you for your kind words, your prayers, and your positive energy. Really, truly, thank you. <3
I also just wanted to take a moment to thank my good friend Greg Papalcure for making two hours of me getting choked up and stuttering awkwardly at the camera into the two minutes you just watched. You're a genius, brother. Thank you. <3
