The annual Damian Gallagher Memorial Scholarship began in 2005 in memory of its namesake, a 1997 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School. Damian passed on October 1, 2001 at the age of 23. His friends felt the need to keep his spirit alive, as part of a Gloucester Catholic tradition.
Damian was a native of Donegal, Ireland, and came to the U.S. at age 13. He was a star athlete on the GCHS cross country and track team. At the time of his passing, he was a student at Rutgers University in Camden and planned on a career in education.
Every October, the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Gloucester County, NJ host a fundraising event for the scholarship with food, drink, dancing, and music.
This year's fundraiser will be held at the Gloucester County AOH on 10/22/2022 from 2 pm to 6 pm. Entry is $30 and includes a buffet luncheon/dinner, draft beer, and wine. The event will also feature live music by the Broken Shillelaghs, a silent auction, and a basket of cheer raffle.
Since its inception, the scholarship has raised over $40,000 benefiting students from GCHS. Last year, we raised $8000 in scholarships, which were given directly to four graduates. Please consider donating through Go Fund Me.
