Hola Carne familia!

We are reaching out to our vibrant community of friends, family, a friend of a friend, your tias y tios, abuelitas bingo friends to help us raise funds for our 2nd season!
This season we are hoping to raise $10,000 for our newest evening-length work "Dame La Receta!" and the development of our community programming, "LA CALLE".
Dame La Receta! has been in the development stages since the start of 2022 and began with just 3 core members as we performed throughout multiple venues in our hometown Miami, FL. This work was developed with the help of MiamiDance Makers by Adele Myers and Dancers and performed at the Perez Art Museum. We've had the opportunity to share this work amongst professionals at Artistry In Rhythm Dance Conference, The Judson Memorial Church for Movement Research in NYC, Miami Dances!, and more. With encouraging and inspiring feedback we have decided to move forward with the development of a full evening-length work! We as artists believe this work is empowering for our communities and ourselves and are inspired by the conversations and visions we have for the work. We are honored to be collaborating this season with such extraordinary individuals reigning from Philadelphia, Miami, and the DMV.

While we strive to reach our crowdfunding goal, these funds will go towards directly paying 6 movement artists, 4 live musicians/sound producers, a costume designer, and a portion towards production costs. We are set to perform excerpts of the work in (3) festivals throughout 2024-2025, participate in (1) dance conference, (2) residencies in Miami and Philadelphia, and premiere DLR in Miami and Philadelphia in 2024-2025! With all that being said, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!! Carne Viva is set to participate in the Inaugural Latinx Movement Festival in Washington D.C, the Leaps and Bounds Artists for Miami Dade College Kendall, and are set to premiere our work in October 2024. With the help of our community during our first season, we were able to produce our first evening-length work, participate in a residency in New York, perform in Cannonball Festival as a part of the BIPOC New Works Tracks, and perform a small work for Fresh Juice Festival in 2022. Any of your contributions mean the world to us!

A note from the director:
Mi gente! Gracias por su apoyo. Thank you for all the love and support we have received, it feels so special to be going into our second season. I am asking for your help with donations to support our second full evening-length work. Carne Viva Dance Theatre is currently a fully self-produced company, who believes the art form should be accessible no matter the economic status or length of experience in the industry. Being a young producer, I believe our work and time is important and there is no better time like the present! This work is beyond special, and we cant wait to share it with our community. We cannot sit around while we try to convince the 60-year-old white male-dominated panelists and funders why our work deserves funding, instead, we turn to those who believe in the present and future of what our work stands for and the love and joy we have for our people and our art. We love y'all so much and we are so pumped for you to take a journey through our lives in this work. Bring your tios, your besties, and your abuelas to try our cafecito. We'll save a seat for you at the table.

“Dame La Receta” is a multidisciplinary work highlights the complexity of living the “American Dream” coming from Latine heritage and the difficulties that come with how we navigate the preservation of our culture and the constant fight to dismantle social political issues and transgenerational trauma. DLR amplifies traditions from a first generation/immigrant point of view and the influence our community has when we gather in sacred communal spaces to celebrate, heal, and mourn. Finding ways to tie us back to our ancestry through sight, sounds, and taste. This is the overall recipe of life, not limited to simply our food, but the recipe to move your body, to build community, and to take up space in the world around us. This is where multiple backgrounds, bodies, and identities can finally collide. This is celebration, cultural preservation, liberation, and radical joy. This work is supported by original soundtracks by our resident band and is accompanied by film.

Artist Statement:
Honoring our collective experiences and cultures as we gather to liberate our bodies as joy becomes an act of rebellion. Focused on representing the true essence of it’s members through multidisciplinary practices that are fueled by the frustrations of the world around us whose goal has been to colonize our bodies, land, and ways of embracing our ancestral genetic memories. There is urgency for us to disrupt and dismantle these spaces. Allowing pleasure and radical joy to inhabit la comunidad y nuestra cultura, and make work that feels raw and shakes us to its core beginning with us as creatives. We are deep believers that practice forms the community, and community forms the practice. Being an extension of our community, our work is a direct threshold of those whose shoulders we stand on, who we are, and those of whose future we are helping to shape.
