Hi, my name is Margaret - previous owner of the Daly River Mango Farm.
As many of you would be aware the Daly River is currently flooding at never-before-seen levels, exceeding 16+ metres.
The privately owned tourist parks along the river have, in many cases, been swallowed by the water. Once that water recedes, the clean-up will be a devastating, time-consuming and financially heavy task. These businesses are not offered flood insurance by insurance companies, and in the rare cases that they are, the excess is well into the tens of thousands of dollars. Small family-run businesses that rely on the short dry-season tourism industry cannot absorb these costs.
The costs of cleaning equipment and supplies, replacing and rebuilding where needed, in addition to the loss of income during this time will be enormous.
The parks affected, in varying but devastating degrees, are:
The Banyan Farm
The Daly River Bush Camp (formerly Lee & Jenny's)
The Daly River Barra Resort
Sinclairs on the Daly
Nancar Wilderness Retreat
Woolianna on the Daly
Daly River Wildlife & Adventure Lodge
Daly River Stockfeed
NT Fish & 4x4
The Daly River is an iconic NT river. It is loved and frequented by those chasing barra or simply enjoying the location — both locals and yearly interstate visitors.
These parks are more than just businesses. They are run by families who have spent years welcoming visitors, sharing their knowledge of the river, and helping people create unforgettable memories on the Daly. Territorians have camped, fished, or spent time at these places over many years and generations. Right now, those same families are facing the enormous task of cleaning up and rebuilding.
I am asking now for you all to give back a little to those who have helped you make some of those memories over the years.
All monies donated to this fundraiser will be split equally between the above listed tourist parks. Even small amounts will help towards cleaning costs and getting these businesses up and running again as soon as possible.
Donations large or small, and sharing this fundraiser will help towards rebuilding so many small businesses.
