Meet Dalton Igoe!

Dalton is 21 years old and works in EMS, and is a firefighter in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He is a heart transplant recipient and has bravely fought his way through life like a champion. On July 7th, 2018, his son Jace was brought into the world. Dalton is an outstanding father and has one of the most loving and determined personalities I know.
7 years ago, this coming May 18th, will be the anniversary of receiving his heart of gold from a young girl named Da'jeianna Lashay Smith.

On Saturday, January 12th 2019, he was changing his son's diaper when he became unresponsive. Luckily, his friend found him and 911 was called. Dalton was transferred to the local emergency room where it was determined he needed an urgent transport to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
On Sunday, January 13th, it was determined that the back of his heart was pumping incorrectly. His BNP, or brain natriuretic peptide levels, were much higher than they should be which was causing his heart to overwork itself. Where his pulse rate usually sits around 110, it was now sitting in the 140s.

On Monday, January 14th, a catheter biopsy was performed to check for rejection of the heart. No rejection was detected, but there was high pressure within his heart due to the high BNP.

On Tuesday, January 15th, his arterial line was taken out. Myocarditis (inflamation of heart tissue) was determined to be the cause of all these issues. It was also determined that his heart would need six months to one year to recover and Dalton will not be able to do any physical activity for that amount of time, including work. His pulse rate was still sitting around 140, then suddenly he went unresponsive again.
On Wednesday, January 16th, Dalton went unresponsive and a code blue was activated early in the morning. AED pads were placed as a precaution, and an emergency operation for another catheter biopsy and rhythmic testing was scheduled. His tests came back negative for rejection or antibodies. An ablation was performed for the arrhythmia. He went into surgery at approximately 1 p.m.

On Thursday, January 17th, surgery went fine, but as soon as he was taken out of the operating room, he went unresponsive with a pulse rate of 22 and almost faced another code blue, or cardiac arrest alert. He was then rushed back into the operating room for a temporary pacemaker to be placed in his neck to protect his heart from further bradycardic (low pulse) episodes.

As of 10:45 on January 17th, the pacemaker seems to be helping and Dalton is awake, alert, and functioning as well as he can.

I am asking each and everyone of you who reads this to please find it in your heart to donate, or at least share, for the benefit of Dalton, his family, and his infant child. They're still trying to figure out the cause of all of these issues and as of yet there is no telling how long he will be in the hospital.
