My name is Julie Frederick. Long time friends of Dale and Kathy Rasmussen are coming together to raise funds so Dale can receive a new vaccine therapy to treat his Glioblastoma (brain cancer). We are posting pictures of Dale and his family, so you know and understand the family and their commitment to health. The doctors feel Dale is a good candidate for the treatment in part due to his dedication; however, out of pocket costs will be at least $50,000. All who know Dale and Kathy understand what a positive force they have been within our community not only by leading projects and fundraisers that benefit all through their service, but also by providing leadership skills to our youth and serving as role models through their volunteer work. Now is the time for us to come together and help them in their time of need. Last year Dale started experiencing symptoms similar to a stroke and landed in the hospital in December. Through MRI’s and eventual surgery doctors found Dale had Glioblastoma, a rare brain cancer. Through much physical, occupational and speech therapy, Dale regained his speech, some fine motor skills and ability to walk. He has come so far, but not without acquiring many medical bills. Dale tried to go back to work, but was unable to continue working and battle the cancer. Chemotherapy and other treatments take their toll. Any amount you can give will help. It all adds up. Having known Dale and Kathy for over 30 years, they are deserving of help. If you are not aware of their roles in our community, please know the following: Dale and Kathy, as well as their children, have all served their community. Dale, who was an Eagle Scout, served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for years for Troop 662 as well as an Assistant Cub Master for Pack 248 and held positions on the Boy Scouts of America Cascade Pacific Council. Dale was never one to turn down a request for help. He guided many young men in their efforts to earn the rank of Eagle to include his own son. From organizing campouts, backpacking trips, working summer camps, fundraisers, work projects, counseling for merit badges, working Sandy Mountain Festival and working with the Kiwanis on community projects, both Dale and Kathy’s lives have been full. Dale and Kathy worked together for the Oregon Trail School District Track and Field programs as well. In the pouring down rain and hot sun, they could be found working various events. Through work Dale took on fundraising events that benefited many programs such as the Sandy Water Polo team. Kathy served as President of the PTA at Sandy Grade and stayed active there after. Both Dale and Kathy volunteered in the Kindergarten program at Sandy Grade School and Kathy served on Sandy Grade Site Council for ten years. While working as a chef at The Resort at The Mountain, Dale trained many young people in their first job. Always with patience. Always with kindness. Kathy and Dale have been together for over 30 years and married for 27. Their lives have been immersed in making their community a better place for all. It is our turn to help them.
