October 30 update

Dale is home, safe and sound. Many months of healing, counseling and moms home cooking will get him back on his feet.
The vascular surgeon said this morning that Dale only had a 5% chance of survival and it was the surgeons 1st successful aortic artery repair, from being totally severed, in 8 years. They are all calling him the miracle kid.
Thank you all for for support on this journey and helping Dale come home.
As we move forward, I ask that you still pray for peace in our hearts as the attacker has court again in 10 days.

October 24th update

again thank you everybody for all the well wishes. Dale continues to make progress. Slow but sure. Still in the hospital but making small strides to recovery.

from Dale

Good day everyone!

I am writing my own update for today!
First things first, I want you all the know I have never in my life felt so loved and supported, EVER.
I'm having very hard times between the severe pains and the changes my body is going through, but you have all made it a little bit better and for that I am so grateful! I got my gut tube out yesterday evening and finally got to enjoy my first few sips of water.
Much love to everyone and I will report back soon, keep your chins up and I'll see you all soon. Dale

Dale got to have a popsicle we will have another update for you tomorrow. Thank you everyone who has shared this and donated.

On the early morning of October 7th, 2023, My nephew Dale became a victim of extreme violence. He was stabbed multiple times by someone unknown to him and as a result, he faced the biggest fight of his young life in the UofA Trauma intensive care unit.
Now he remains in the Intermediate Trauma department in stable but tender condition.
He is only 31 years old and will not be able to work for many months.
7 days have passed and because of all the stab wounds, repairs and new issues with blood clots and infection, he is still unable to eat or drink and is in a great deal of physical and emotional pain.

It is clear that Dale will need our support for many months, if not a year, with basic necessity, medical appointments, medical transportation and physical therapy. He will receive some unemployment medical benefits but his place of employment does not have short term or long term benefits.

We are hoping our community, family and friends might consider donating to help Dale have one less worry through this extremely difficult time in his life. He is a trooper but needs our help on his journey to health.

We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different and many of us are already struggling through this trying financial time in the world.
If you can donate to this cause, please do, we would really appreciate your support.
If all you can manage is to take a moment and and be thankful Dale is still with us, please do that. We almost lost him. I also want yo thank all those who donate blood. Dale received 25 units of life saving blood. Also a huge thank you to STARS.

update Oct 14

Dale is overwhelmed with gratitude and is thankful for everyone's care and support. Your well wishes are keeping him fighting and helping him to look forward to a bright future full of big outdoor adventures. Medically, his progress is very slow but everyday there are small victories. Today, less internal infections, good outside wound healing and the odd smile or two.

October 15 update

As the minutes moves to days, and days will turn into weeks, we are more hopeful that Dale will make a full recovery.
It's quicker to list his lower organs that were not damaged, his heart and kidneys. Many of the rest are just starting to function again.. slowly but surely.
We hope Dale will be able to start drinking clear fluids soon. He has had a couple popsicles but has a tube to remove the liquid from his stomach as soon as he swallows.
He cannot have a feeding tube as his stomach and bowels need more time to heal.
He is sitting up and staying away for a few minutes at a time but is dealing with lots of pain.
We are deeply thankful for everyone's support and kind words.

You can send well wishes directly to Dale at 3f2 bed 6. He is not up for visiting yet.
