Dale Hopkins' Memorial

$19,779 raised of $15K

After an epic battle against Multiple Myeloma, Dale Hopkins has left this world and gone on to his next great adventure. He fought for six years with the bravery of the Jedi that he truly was, but now, at the end, it is finally time for him to rest.
To know Dale was to love him. Dale was a singularly inclusive person that wanted to help people around him, whether that meant sharing his love of Star Wars or simply holding the door for an elderly couple, he made the world a better place every day that he was here. He was truly one of the warmest, kindest people ever created and he will be deeply missed. While Dale was with us, he went out of his way to support other people with Multiple Myeloma, even while he struggled with the cancer himself. He may be gone, but his generous spirit lives on and he wanted there to be a fund for other people battling the disease.
Please contribute to the Dale Hopkins Memorial. All funds collected will be donated to help Multiple Myeloma patients at the Hematology and Medical Oncology Cancer Care at the Cleveland Clinic whose staff provided him with excellent care. The sole exception is that some funds may be used to offset medical bills if needed.
We will regularly update this site with full transparency so you can see how the funds go directly to the patients and know the impact of your contribution to this cause so important to Dale.
Join the rebel alliance to join the battle against Multiple Myeloma and help us shatter the fundraising goal!
Much love and appreciation for any and all contributions.
Additional information as requested by the website:
Who you are and your relationship to the intended recipient(s) of your fundraiser's donations
My name is Lou LaMarca. I am Dale's husband. The intended recipients of this fundraisers' donations are patients with Multiple Myeloma at the Hematology and Medical Oncology Cancer Care department at the Cleveland Clinic where Dale was diagnosed and treated.
A detailed explanation of how the funds will be spent
The funds will be spent on anything needed by Multiple Myeloma patients that are not being met by already existing programs. There is a wide variety of ways the money can be spent including, but not limited to: help with medication copays, transportation, food, utilities, clothing, respite for caregivers, expressive therapies, housecleaning, social/recreational activities. There is one criteria, that the clinical providers (doctors, nurses, social workers) believe it will help the patients and their caregivers.
Your plan for ensuring your fundraiser's donations reach their intended recipient(s). This could be clarifying that they will be added as the beneficiary of the fundraiser, or if they have authorized you to withdraw the funds on their behalf and deliver the money to them outside of GoFundMe.
The funds will be transferred from gofundme to my bank account. I will then donate them to an already existing program (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/departments/cancer/patient-education/patient-resource-center) via a forthcoming personal fundraising website in Dale's honor. It will be hosted by the Cleveland Clinic free of charge. The fund the donations are submitted to is a 501(c) charitable organization. This means donations will not be subject to deductions for taxes and will meet criteria for charitable giving on the donor's income tax returns. I will use the website to announce future fundraisers (for example: auction of Dale's Star Wars collectibles, golf outing etc.) and to provide updates of how the money is being spent via reports from the clinical team and the patients themselves. I am in the process of creating the page; it should be ready to go by the end of the week. I will post a link in an update when it is. When we reach our goal here of $15,000.00 we will end this gofundme campaign and transfer to the new website.
