Ha dormito tutta la notte sul nostro balcone, nella cuccetta improvvisata che gli abbiamo fatto. Da quel momento abbiamo capito che non potevamo abbandonarlo

Perché chiediamo aiuto

A Zante abbiamo incontrato Baghera Il Greco, un giovane gatto nero dolcissimo. Non apparteneva alla colonia dell’hotel e veniva spesso respinto e aggredito: faticava perfino a mangiare. Lo abbiamo conosciuto negli ultimi due giorni di vacanza, proprio quando i veterinari erano chiusi. Siamo ripartiti col cuore spezzato, dopo averlo nutrito e visto dormire al sicuro vicino a noi.

Vogliamo portarlo a casa, in Italia, in sicurezza e per sempre.

Cosa abbiamo già fatto

Abbiamo attivato i gruppi Facebook locali, coinvolto lo staff dell’hotel e diversi ospiti: in tanti ci hanno mandato foto e segnalazioni. Si è creata una task force internazionale tra UK, Grecia e Italia tramite gruppi WhatsApp.

Una volontaria si è mossa sul posto: al primo tentativo non l’ha trovato e per quattro giorni non ci sono state notizie. Poi la svolta: il post Facebook di un’ospite nella villa accanto all’hotel mostrava proprio lui. La volontaria è andata subito, l’ha recuperato e lo ha portato dal veterinario per l’antirabbica e l’avvio dell’iter dei 21 giorni. Ora Baghera è al sicuro, in stallo a pagamento fino al nostro rientro a fine settembre.

Quali sono le spese

Dobbiamo coprire le spese veterinarie, lo stallo e il volo A/R su una compagnia che accetta animali a bordo, per poterlo prendere e portare finalmente a casa.

He spent the whole night sleeping on our balcony, in a little bed we improvised for him. From that moment we knew we couldn't leave him there.

Why we’re asking for help

In Zakynthos we met Baghera the Greek, a very sweet young black cat. He didn’t belong to the hotel colony and was often pushed away and attacked, struggling to eat. We found him during our last two days—when vets were closed. We left with a broken heart after feeding him and watching him sleep safely next to us.

Our goal is to bring him home to Italy, safe and forever.

What we’ve already done

We rallied local Facebook groups, hotel staff and guests—many shared photos and sightings. A small international task force formed across the UK, Greece and Italy.

A volunteer searched for him: the first attempt failed and we had four long days with no news. Then the turning point: a guest at the villa next to the hotel posted photos—it was him. The volunteer went early in the morning, rescued Baghera and took him to the vet to start the rabies shot and the 21-day process. He’s now safe in paid foster until we return at the end of September.

What we need to cover

We need to cover vet care, foster boarding and round-trip flights on a pet-friendly airline so we can pick him up and bring him home in Italy.
