Who Am I?
Howdy! My name is Dakota Britvich. I’m a transgender male singer and performer here in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. I have been performing on stage in the metroplex professionally going on 6 years now. To survive, I work as a graphic designer in Frisco and I also work as an A/V tech at The Game Show Experience along with doing independent graphic design work.

I enjoy doing advocacy work for the trans and broader queer community and spreading awareness about legislation and helping find community resources. I also enjoy Dungeons and Dragons and being comically bad at video games.

Performing and Being Trans

While gender itself is a performance, I was scared that doing theater as a trans person would be impossible due to the rigidity of body type and vocal registers in the industry. I have always had a deep seated love for theatre, but in a body and roles that didn't reflect who I was, I spent many of my early years in theatre feeling out of place. But thankfully, as I slowly came to reveal the person I am inside on the stage, I quickly realized that there was much more fluidity and freedom than I thought and the theater scene here was surprisingly accepting of trans performers.

If you have had the chance to explore some of the theater performances here in DFW, you've likely seen me running around on stage (or if you're a fellow actor, at many an audition).

I have had the incredible opportunity to work professionally and regionally in a number of reputable DFW theaters including The Firehouse Theatre, WaterTower Theatre, Lakeside Community Theatre, Grand Prairie Arts Council, Lewisville Playhouse and many others. The community in Dallas has repeatedly trusted me with roles that reflect my identity and let me grow as a performer.

To find such a loving and accepting community has been a blessing that I am eternally thankful for and I'm hoping now that y'all can walk with me and support me on my next steps forward.

My Transition Journey

Though I’d socially transitioned since 2020 and explored my gender for years prior, I finally began my medical transition in April of 2024 and every day when I look in the mirror I finally see myself more and more. I had been putting off the idea of top surgery for a long time simply because financially I wasn’t sure if it was possible. But now I know that it is.

After this past legislative session here in Texas and bills like HB3399 which would outlaw all Texans from seeking any type of gender affirming care, I realize that if I wait much longer, I won’t have a chance to get rid of a part of my body that has caused me significant mental and physical distress: My chest.

My insurance refuses to cover anything related to gender affirming care or surgeries so all of this would be coming out of my own pocket: $8500. I’m hoping that my connections in the community here can help me out with funding some of this before it’s too late for me to transition in the state of Texas.

The procedure I will be getting is a double mastectomy (top surgery) to get rid of my breast tissue. I aim to have surgery in January or February of 2026 but have to apply for the surgery loan in September. Getting top surgery opens up so many possibilities for me physically like being able to dance, sing and perform without binding my chest and alleviate the gender dysphoria that has severely impacted my state of mind and wellbeing. My chest dysphoria has been a root cause of almost all of my mental health struggles including depression, anxiety, and an unhealthy relationship with my body.

Any amount is appreciated. If you are not in a financial position to donate currently, please share it with your friends and colleagues. Getting visibility to this fundraiser is key for it being a successful one. All funds from this will go directly to paying as much as I can out of pocket before I apply for the loan in September.
